Price Pfister Flange Stuck | Terry Love Plumbing Advice & Remodel DIY & Professional Forum

I have an old avante shower handle I'm trying to replace and the flange (not sure if that's what it's called) won't come off. It spins freely counter clockwise. There is a gap so it's not stuck to the wall plate. What is this outer piece called? Thank you.
